BGS Biogas, a.s. as a service partner for general overhauls of cogeneration units
The year 2016 for BGS Biogas, a.s. was marked by overhauls of MAN cogeneration units carried out at 32,000 operating hours, which customers wished to be either complete and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, or in the form of engine replacement — with a brand new or refurbished one. Cost of an engine repair, depending on the type of engine and the related necessary operations, ranges from CZK 0.8 to 1.4 mil., while a new engine, depending on the type, with fluids and other consumable parts, can be purchased for approximately twice as much.
It should be added that by ordering new engines, customers wished to solve an urgent replacement of damaged engine in need of minimizing the profit loss from generation. Luckily, BGS Biogas, a.s. has reliable suppliers of engines and always tries to accommodate its customers’ needs. In 2016, we cooperated on the installation of two completely new and four refurbished engines. Compared to the general overhaul, the so-called M5, replacement of an engine has the advantage of relatively short outage and installation of new engine parts, including turbochargers or a fluid cooler.
During 2016, the BGS Biogas, a.s. service team was expanded in order to be able to cope with the excessive amount of work required on the general overhauls in addition to all other repairs to cogeneration units, as well as other biogas equipment built by the Company or plants owned by new customers who turned to us and asked for help with the repair. During the year, the skilled technicians of BGS carried out over a dozen general overhauls, as well as many other partial repairs of engines on customers’ requests.
By mutual agreement with the customer and after a counselling, BGS Biogas, a.s. strives to meet all the wishes when approaching individual repairs.
